Whether you’re new to crypto or an experienced user, questions come up — and this guide is here to help.

This FAQ is your go-to resource. It covers everything from downloading ONTO to staking ONT, troubleshooting issues, and joining community events. For deeper dives, check out ONTO’s Help Center, staking docs, and community blog:

Getting Started with ONTO

What is ONTO Wallet?
ONTO is a self-sovereign identity and multi-chain wallet app. It supports digital identity, multi-chain assets, DeFi, NFT management, and more — all while keeping you in control of your keys.

How do I download ONTO Wallet?

Why does ONTO need camera access?
It’s required for QR code scanning — essential for wallet imports, payments, and dApp logins.

Wallet & Identity Management

What is ONT ID?
ONT ID is ONTO’s decentralized identity system. It allows you to create a portable, secure identity to log in to apps, verify reputation, and control your personal data.

Mnemonic phrase vs. private key vs. keystore — what’s the difference?

  • Mnemonic phrase: human-readable recovery phrase.
  • Private key: cryptographic string that grants wallet access.
  • Keystore: encrypted JSON file for importing/exporting.

Why do I get different addresses from the same mnemonic?
Different blockchains use different derivation paths. Always import with the correct option.

Transactions & Asset Management

Why can’t I see a token in my wallet?
Go to Assets → + → Add Token, then search and add your token.

Why are my BNB or TRON transactions failing?

  • For BNB/BSC, try changing your RPC node under Profile → Settings → Advanced → Node Settings.
  • TRON wallet import via mnemonic is not supported; use your private key instead.

👉 Troubleshooting Guide

Ontology Staking (ONT → ONG)

Staking is one of ONTO’s most powerful features — you can delegate ONT to a node and earn ONG as a reward.

How long is one staking round?
7–9 days, depending on Ontology’s consensus cycle.

What’s the staking APY?
APY isn’t fixed; it depends on network activity, node performance, and competition. Use the Staking Calculator for estimates:

When do I start earning rewards?
If you stake in round T, rewards begin in T+1 and can be withdrawn at the start of that round.

How do I unstake?

  • Candidate nodes: withdrawal begins T+1.
  • Consensus nodes: withdrawal begins T+2.

Are staked assets safe?
Yes. Ontology uses anti-evil protocols and secure node design to protect delegators.

Events & Rewards

When do I receive event rewards?
Rewards are usually distributed within one week after the event ends. Check your wallet for updates.

Community FAQs (Regularly Updated) https://onto.app/blog/community-faqs-regularly-updated/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 19:14:15 +0000 To help you better navigate ONTO Wallet, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions from our community. We hope this helps!

1. Why does my transaction fail when sending BNB from ONTO Wallet to other wallets?

If you are facing any problem with transaction or password failure in BSC coins/tokens, we recommend you change the BSC Node settings by heading over to ONTO Wallet Settings » Node Settings… Here is a detailed guide on how to change BSC Node or RPC in ONTO’s Settings:

2. Why does the staked ONT in my ONTO wallet end automatically?

Each node staking round is synchronized with an Ontology consensus round. You can view the progress of the current consensus round at https://node.ont.io/stake and calculate the remaining time of the current consensus round based on the speed of the previous consensus round. To give you an example, the 131, 132, 133 and 134 consensus rounds took about 7 to 9 days each round.

3. Why is the address different when importing the same mnemonic phrase?

When importing the wallet with a mnemonic phrase, if you choose a different path (encrypt type), then it will result in different addresses. Please choose the right path (encrypt type) or import with the private key.

4. Why is another wallet displayed when importing the TRON wallet with the mnemonic phrase?

Currently, ONTO Wallet does not support importing TRON Wallet through mnemonic phrases.

5. I was one of the winners of the event, when will the rewards be distributed?

Rewards are usually distributed within a week after the end of the event, please check your wallet from time to time to see if the rewards have been distributed.

6. Why can’t I find the asset I want to view?

Please click “Assets” — “+” — “Add Assets” in turn to add the tokens you need to view.

7. When can I withdraw the staking rewards?

If the staking rewards are generated in the ‘T’ round, then you will be able to withdraw the rewards at the beginning of the round ‘T+1’.

8. I sent BTC through my ONTO Wallet. Why haven’t I received it yet?

Please check whether the sender’s address is correct; if yes, please wait patiently. Usually, BTC transfers take longer to be confirmed.

9. Why can’t I connect to ONTO Wallet?

Please confirm whether your browser extension wallet or app wallet has been updated to the latest version, if so, please restart the browser or application.

10. Why doesn’t the “Submit” button show up when I import my wallet?

A few mobile phone models may be incompatible, please change to another device or wait for the version update.

We will update the FAQs from time to time. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out on our Discord or Telegram, our team will be more than happy to help!
